The 2008 JDF Salmon Derby Winner is Joe Kadar with a 36.8 pound Chinook which he caught entirely on his own!

Second place went to Gary Cooper who was put on the fish by number one guide Joanne of Island Outfitters. They came in with a 34.2 pound spring & lead the derby for all of Saturday.
3rd place went to Conrad DePalma who reeled in a 31.8 pound spring.
4th: William Cooper with a 31.1 pound chinook.
5th was Vern Storry with a 30.7 pound chinook.
Fishing was quite a bit slower this year with only 54 chinook coming in on Saturday and 29 fish coming in on Sunday. It looks like they are a little late this year as reports up island both days were pretty hot fishing. Weather was superb.
At this time we especially want to give a very heartfelt thank you to all of our sponsors who have already called and e-mailed to let us know that they are back next year and also for their encouraging comments about what a great derby the Juan de Fuca Salmon Derby is. Their moral support as well as their financial support is what keeps this derby going so strong. The prize board and the Salmon Enhancement program both benefit widely from their enthusiastic support. Their high energy support and encouragement means a lot more to us than we can say in words alone.
Pro-Troll Fishing Products, based out of California recently contacted the derby executive and let us know that they think that the Juan de Fuca Salmon Derby is now the "Top Derby in Canada". Thanks to all who make this event such a tremendous success.
